Off Grid Systems

Autonomous (stand-alone) photovoltaic system allows complete independence from external suppliers of electricity. The main idea of an autonomous (stand-alone) system, is to create electricity purely from the sun and use it to cover the total electric energy demand. Electricity from autonomous (stand-alone) system can be used both during the day and at night.

Autonomous (stand-alone) systems are primarily used where construction of the power line and connection to the power of individual objects becomes unprofitable, such as:

  • mountain shelters
  • water pumping, communications transmitters,
  • road signs, billboards,
  • emergency power systems,
  • vending machines, parking meters,
  • power for boats, trailers, campers.

Off-grid solar system – scheme.

An off-grid solar power system consists of the following elements:

  • Photovoltaic solar panels.
  • Voltage regulator - to adequately control the battery charge status,
  • Battery set - gathers the excess of the energy generated by the photovoltaic panels, which is used for example at night, when photovoltaic panels do not produce electricity.
  • Inwerter – used to convert direct current to alternating current.
  • Installation system - allows for safe and stable installation of photovoltaic panels. Depending on the type of roof are different installation systems.

    In the case of a separate DC-powered installation in autonomous (stand-alone) system, the use of an inverter can be omitted. The solution with the use of inverter is used when devices require AC power (eg, 230).
